SPLIT ACES AND EIGHTS IN BLACKJACK
One of the basic rules of Blackjack is to make sure to split aces and eights, because the chances of receiving a good hand or a 21, if one of your cards is an ace is better.
A strategy which is considered riskier is splitting eights, and some players say that they don’t split eights if the Dealer is dealing a nine or ten. Others say that they follow their heart when deciding on splitting them.
One of the most important basic strategies to follow when playing Blackjack is to play the dealer for a ten, as if he has a twenty, and hit/stay in accordance. The same rule can be applied for a six shown by the Dealer, or any other bust combination: 12,13,14,15.
Even though there will be plenty of times, when there isn’t a 10 in the dealer’s hole, you should stick to your tactics, rather than playing based on your momentary hunch.
A common mistake made by newbies is splitting tens or face cards, especially when the Dealer shows a bust card. It is silly to split the next to best hand in Blackjack and think you can hit on each one of their tens.
A good idea is to double down to tens and elevens, and double on soft 13,14,15,1,6,17,18, in case the Dealer has shown a 3,4,5,6. In these cases, you have a good chance to improve your hand or at least get another ten, whilst the Dealer will bust.
Another successful strategy for winning at Blackjack is to hit a 12 against the dealer if he has 2. Apparently this will lead to more winning, but of course it is up to you to play as you decide.
The important part is to stay consistent throughout the game, not depending on the cards. If you feel like you are in a bad run, simply leave the table rather than spending all your money on the Dealer’s lucky streak.
